Evolution
Paul is a Toronto based electronic musician focusing on dark driving beats.
Under the name Pulse Plant, Paul uses past band influences and blends them into his own
dark version of Psy-trance. Initially starting out in the early 1990's under the band name
Genetic Disorder he experimented in gothic and industrial musical styles, now with the surge of
techno music Paul decided to explore this genre.
Psy-trance seemed to be a happy median for Paul because he could incorporate his old passion for
industrial into a new style of music. Pulse Plant uses driving beats and arpeggiator patterns
combined with strange atmospheric sounds to create his music. Unexpected sounds
and unusual tempo changes are also thrown in the mix to enthrall the listener and force them
to constantly listen for different layers in the music.
Live shows are more of a concept than a series of separate songs,
thus the listener is taken
through a variety of moods building up, and breaking down but never faulting from a hard
driving beat that is aimed at the dance floor. Pulse Plant plays insturments in realtime and uses
the mixing techniques of a DJ when changing songs. Beat mixes, fades and eq manipulation are
all part of the live set, making it more of a spontaneous performance than a predetermined
set.
Pulse Plant has performed at raves, art openings and small clubs. Currently Paul is practicing
his DJ skills as well as writing new material.
He is constantly helping out other Toronto
musicians. He plays keyboards for Bang Elektronika, and Die Roboter (a Kraftwerk cover band).
He has also done session work for Novacosm as well as remixing songs for local bands.
